Permits & Paperwork for the Mardi Himal trek

Before starting the Mardi Himal trek from Pokhara, you will have to get a couple of required trekking permits.

These Mardi Himal trek permits are essential as they help determine safety, support local conservation efforts and ensure you comply with the rules established for trekking in Nepal.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

This is a permit required to enter the protected area of the Annapurna region.

The cost is approximately NPR 3,000 (USD 25) for foreigners and NPR 1,000 (USD 8) for SAARC nationals and the funds go to maintaining trails, and wildlife protection and habitat.

Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card

The permit for the Mardi Himal trek through the TIMS system costs approximately NPR 2,000 (USD 17).

The TIMS systematically registers the route of your trek, thereby allowing local authorities to keep track of the foot traffic on the route so they can react efficiently in the case of a serious incident (such as altitude sickness).

Where and How to Get Your Permits

You can get both permits at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu or at the ACAP/TIMS counter located near Lakeside Pokhara.

Bring your passport, several passport photos, and cash in Nepali rupees.

Most trekkers get this sorted out in Pokhara a day or so in advance of their hike.
