Kanchenjunga Trekking

 

Well, Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain of the world after Mount Everest and Mount K2 with an elevation of 8586 m and is located at the eastern part of Nepal. And this region was opened in 1988 for trekkers. Kanchenjunga region is protected by Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project by World Wildlife Fund in association with the Government of Nepal. In fact, the Kanchenjunga sanctuary is a home of Red Panda and other montane animals, birds and plants. Many people have described Kanchenjunga region as the finest trekking route of Nepal. Well, it's a long trek going deep into the remote mountain ranges on Nepal's border with Sikkim and Tibet. During Kanchenjunga trek, you will see a wide range of scenery lush and tropical jungle through rhododendron and chestnut as well as oak forests and then at higher altitudes into the alpine zone.


Kanchenjunga Trekking route starts by approaching the north side of Kanchenjunga where you can observe the awesome panorama of Nepal Peak, Cross Peak, Tent Peak, and then Kanchenjunga Base Camp. Well, from Pangpema the trek returns to Ghunsa and then we have to cross the Mirgin La Pass over to the south side of Kanchenjunga. Detailed Itinerary


Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
After you arrive in Kathmandu, our representatives will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to the hotel.


Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu and preparation for the trip

This day, you will visit the famous historical and cultural sites of the Kathmandu valley. With the help of our tour guide, you will be visiting Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Bauddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar Square among others.


Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar
This day, you take a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. In the afternoon, you will visit the Biratnagar city.


Day 04: Flight from Biratnagar to Shuketar and trek to Mitlung
In the morning, you take a flight to Shuketar. From Shuketar, you start your trek from where we descend to Mitlung. En route, we cross the Hungdewa Khola and the raging Tamur River.


Day 05: Trek from Mitlung to Chirwa
This day, we start our trek ascending the hill for some time. Then we descend to the Sinwa village and continue our walk to Tawa. After some hour of walking uphill and downhill, we reach Chirwa which is a small Limbu village.


Day 06: Trek from Chirwa to Sekathum
This day also, we walk uphill for some time and descend to the lush green vegetation. Then, we follow the Tamur River to the OlangChungGola, the entry point of Kanchenjunga National Park. Shortly after that, we reach Sekathum where we will set up our camp.

 

Day 07: Trek from Sekathum to Amjilosa
This day is rather tough day. We cross the river and ascend on the steep path and then descend to another side and cross the river again. We walk uphill and downhill and finally we reach Amjilosa.


Day 08: Trek from Amjilosa to Gyabla
We follow the river bank and pass through the dense forest of bamboo, rhododendron and fir. On the way, we enjoy the stunning natural scenery as well as the company of the waterfalls. Then we reach another Tibetan settlement of Gyabla.


Day 09: Trek from Gyabla to Ghunsa
From Gyabla, we descend down to the river valley. After walking some hours, we reach at the famous Sherpa Village of Ghunsa with hydroelectric plant. It is also the place where more than 20 prominent conservationists met their tragic end in the Helicopter crash.

 

Day 10: Rest day
This day, we take a full rest for acclimatization with exploration of local areas. We make a short hike towards the Lapsan La through lush green forest.

 

Day 11: Trek from Ghunsa to Kambachen
After one day rest at Ghunsa, we continue our trek further north following the river bank. We walk through the high land trees and vegetation. We cross many suspension bridges over the river, and pass waterfalls and finally reach Kambachen.

 

Day 12: Rest day
This day, we take a full rest for acclimatization with exploration of local areas. We explore the region to Nuphchu Khola valley.

 

Day 13: Trek from Kambachen to Lhonak
This day, we will climb through the rocky fields and boulders on the hillside along the river bank. We pass waterfall and cross the bridge to Ramtang. Then finally we descend down to the river and reach Lhonak.

 

Day 14: Trek from Lhonak to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp
This day, we will walk along the edge of the glacier in the ascending path on grassy trails. We see the enchanting view of the Chang Himal on our right. Finally, we reach the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp.

 

Day 15: Trek back to Khambachen
We retrace our path to Lhonak and continue down the valley to Ramtang. On the way we will get an opportunity to enjoy the panoramic views of Kanchenjunga, Gimmigela Chuli, Taple Shikhar, Kirat Chuli and many more. Finally we descend to Kambachen by evening.

 

Day 16: Trek from Khambachen to Ghunsa
Today, we will retrace our path back to Ghunsa.

 

Day 17: Trek from Ghunsa to Sele Le
Today, we walk up in the steep paths from Ghunsa to Sele Le. After sometime, we reach Ghunsa village and then continue uphill through the dense forest of moss, juniper and rhododendron.

 

Day 18: Trek from Sele Le to Tseram
Today, we climb uphill enjoying the exciting views of Jannu Himal. This day, we pass several passes like the Sinion La, the Mirgin La and the Sinelapche La. From the passes, we see the fantastic view of the Himalayas. Finally we reach at Tseram.

 

Day 19: Trek from Tseram to Ramche
This day, we ascend the hill passing the snout of the Yalung Glacier. Then, we explore the valley.

 

Day 20: Trek from Ramche to Tseram
Today, we retrace our route to Tseram. Mostly, we walk downhill today.

 

Day 21: Trek from Tseram to Yamphudin
Today also we walk in the descending path. We descend down to Yamphudin, a village inhabited by different ethnic groups including Sherpas, Limbus, Rais, and Gurungs.

 

Day 22: Trek from Yamphudin to Anpan
This day, at first we follow the Kabeli Khola. And after some time, we ascend through the cardamom forest; pass by a few villages. And finally, we descend further to Anpan.

 

Day 23: Trek from Anpan to Taplejung
This day, we head to Taplejung. We visit the Taplejung bazaar and stay night there.

 

Day 24: Trek from Taplejung to Suketar
From Taplejung, we return back to Sukhetar. After walking uphill sometimes, we reach the STOL airstrip of Sukhetar.

 

Day 25: Flight from Suketar to Biratnagar and again flight to Kathmandu
In the morning, you take flight to Biratnagar. And then, in the afternoon, you take the flight to Kathmandu.

 

Day 26: Final Departure from Kathmandu
This day will be your final stay in Nepal. Today, you will depart to your own destination. We will manage to drop you to airport.
