Manaslu Circuit Trek in Summer

Manaslu Trek in June

Jule represents the beginning of the monsoon period in the Manaslu region, which brings rainfall and humidity. Even though weather presents a problem here, trekkers can expect moments of pleasant sunny weather interrupted by moments of showers. The average temperature is 20-30°C (68-86°F) during the day, while the night temperatures average between 10-15°C (50-59°F).

A significant number of trekkers choose to hike in the early spring and the early autumn, so the trail is less busy and more tranced. This enables trekkers to have a more profound experience with picturesque terrains and develop a deeper connection with the local culture, as trekkers can interact more easily with communities along the route.

While the monsoon brings lush greenery and vibrant flora, trekkers should be prepared for wet, slippery terrain and possible landslides. However, the rain changes the location’s look and the waterfalls, significantly enhancing the appearance of small rivers. June is the best time for adventurous souls to conquer the trek. They get to experience the rich green beauty of nature, but on the other hand, trekkers face the challenge of harsh climate and low crowd density.

Manaslu Trek in July

July is one of the year’s wettest months in the middle of the monsoons. It also rains more often and heavily, causing high humidity and challenging the trek. July has a high temperature of 20 – 28 ˚C (68 – 82 ˚F), while the low temperature is about 12-18 ˚C (54 – 64 ˚F). July still has a few positive sides for enthusiasts ready to face the challenging conditions of mountain trekking. The trails you follow are far less crowded, with few other trekkers, allowing for a more solitary experience. It also offers a chance to fully immerse into the environment as the rain awakens nature to life.

Hillsides are green and covered with vegetation, and waterfalls are roaring and accessible, which makes the trekking site beautiful. However, it is essential for the individuals planning trekking in July to prepare appropriately. The heavy rains also cause slippery trails, sometimes affected by landslides. Trekkers should be careful and have appropriate tools and attire, including suitable waterproof clothing and good boots.

It will also be essential to use leech protection in lowland areas. Sometimes, visibility may be affected by clouds and mists, but on clear days, one can enjoy some breathtaking views of the high range of the central mountains and valleys. July will be an excellent time for those ready-to-face elements on the Manaslu Circuit.

Manaslu Trek in August

August is still part of the monsoon season, and it rains often; humidity is high, and everything is green and somewhat colorful. Daytime climate averages between 20°C and 28°C (68°F to 82°F), or, at times, even much more, whereas night temperatures fluctuate between 12°C to 18°C (54°F to 64°F). The rains, however, interfere with mobility, especially given the slippery terrain and probability of landslides. Another possible benefit of trekking in August is that there will be fewer people around you and fewer other trekkers.

August is also a month of cultural richness, with festivals like Janai Purnima, Gai Jatra, “Festival of Cows,” which honors the deceased, and Indra Jatra, which celebrates Indra, the god of rain. Although the rainy season brings several difficulties, the spectacular sceneries and the richness of the cultures during the trek in August significantly compensate for the discomforts of the Manaslu trek.

Manaslu Circuit Trek in Winter

Manaslu Trek in January

In January, the lowest temperatures are felt on the Manaslu Circuit. These, therefore, vary depending on the region, with average temperatures ranging between -5°C and five °C (23°F – 41°F) in the lower grounds while night temperatures in some of the higher grounds range between -15°C and -25°C (5°F -13°F). There is often snow, mainly over 4000m, such as the Larke La Pass. Many teahouses and lodges above 3,500 meters are shut down this month, and fewer people have started the circuit.

January also brings unique cultural experiences. There are festivals like Maghee Parba (Maghe Sankranti) and Martyr’s Memorial Day. The winter months, despite their harshness, offer stunning views. They show snow-covered peaks and untouched, tranquil trails. Due to the high risk of avalanches and a deserted trail, an experienced guide is needed.

Manaslu Trek in February

February is still winter on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. It’s colder at high altitudes but slightly warmer than in January. During the daytime in the lower areas, the temperatures are between -3°C to 7°C (27°F to 45°F), and the higher area of the park has night temperatures of -12°C to -20°C (10°F to -4°F). The higher parts may also snow, and crossing the Larke La Pass may still be difficult or impossible. Many teahouses and lodges above 3,500m remain shut. But, some below that elevation open again at the month’s end as the weather improves.

The trekkers who happen to be visiting the country in February may have the opportunity to witness Shivaratri, a significant event on the Hindu calendar in honor of Lord Shiva. In this annual feast, people abstain from food, pray, and vigil throughout the night. Trekking in February is also relatively peaceful and calm. It is perfect for adventurers willing to face the cold in exchange for serenity and unique cultural experiences.
